Digital Marketing Implementation

We welcome you back to our series on Digital Marketing. In previous blog posts, we've introduced Strategy and Planning. If you have time, we suggest you begin with Digital Marketing Strategies, the 7 Pillars of 2021.

Today we will get to the details of executing a plan. If you've missed that post, you can go back and read What is a Digital Marketing Plan, here. Both past blog posts will give you the information you need to start your business marketing plan.

A Big Plan Starts with Small Steps

For most of any digital marketing plan, deciding on how you will get the information into the hands of your target market is the first step.

A few things we suggest as "must-haves" are:

  • A Google My Business Page
  • A User-Friendly Website
  • A Facebook Business Page

These three suggestions are the very basic modes of how your target audience in your community will find your business. We have a series on Google My Business, you can start with:

How to Setup Google My Business Page 2021

Next, choose one to three social media platforms where you will actively engage your audience. Discovering which platform bests suit your needs where your target audience is most active takes a bit of research. If this is something you are not familiar with, contact us and let us help you with this.

You don't want to invest time and energy into a platform that doesn't even support your target market.

Establish a Marketing Calendar

Creating content that is distinctively supportive of your services, products, and brand is key in connecting with the right perspective client or consumer. Whether it's a blog post, Facebook post, or Instagram image, it should be unique to your business and original.

We suggest planning out your digital marketing campaigns at least a month ahead. This gives you or your digital marketing manager the freedom to make corrections or edit and not feel overwhelmed.

There are multiple paid apps as well as free resources to use. Google Calendars are a free resource that can be shared with team members.

Content Marketing

If you've heard, Content is King when it comes to marketing, you've heard right. Even with Facebook and all its new changes rolling out for 2021, original content will gain more traction.

If you've randomly posted on a Facebook Business Page without consistency and shared links you've copied, you have wasted your time. This is not helping your business to grow.

One of the most efficient ways to game the system, especially on platforms such as Facebook with their ever-changing algorithms, content is the main ingredient to organic growth.

Creating original content on your website will also work better with Google's SEO. Designing a content calendar is a must.

Macro Content- Blog, Vlog, Podcast

Remember all marketing is geared toward your target market so you have to ask yourself where are they? Is your target market reading blogs, watching vlogs, or listening to podcasts?

Taking this into consideration should be first. Once you land on one of the big three content markets, we suggest planning out at least two posts per month at the minimum. Once those foundational content posts are made, break them down into micro-content for other social media platforms.

Themes are valuable when planning macro-content posts. We can't emphasize enough that you should plan your content. Using some type of editorial calendar, as we mentioned above, or a planning app, decide on what content you will create, where you will post it, and when.

Being consistent with your content is another very important aspect of your marketing plan.

Each month should take into consideration the seasons, holidays, trending events, or topics based on your products or services. Preplanning a series at least a month out will keep you and your marketing team on track.

Original content takes time and with a recycling mentality, can go a long way in your marketing plan.

We will dive more deeply into the different types of Macro-Content and how to create each in future posts.

Start with the post that will contain the largest amount of content and repost smaller bits to other platforms which bring us to micro-content.

Micro Content- Social Media Platforms

Micro-Content includes all over social media platforms. We will touch on the mainstream platforms but remember there is a vast world of communication now and finding the places where your target markets are hanging out is of utmost value to your marketing plan.

  • Facebook -  Pros: 1 billion active users daily, great for customer interaction, powerful analytics. Cons: Facebook is changing is platform drastically in the upcoming months to how pages will interact with users.
  • Instagram - Pros: 1 billion active users daily, appealing visual aspect, most popular with the younger generation, created for mobile users. Cons: Needs aggressive posting schedule. Interactions can be clumsy.
  • Twitter - Pros: Ads see more success than on Facebook, Easy to engage followers, free targeting with "#" and "@". Cons: Requires multiple daily tweets to be heard above all the "noise."
  • LinkedIn - Pros: 65+ million active users, great for business-related material, perfect for networking, easy to recruit talent. Cons: Not designed for eCommerce.
  • YouTube - Pros: 2 billion monthly users. Videos drive more conversions and complement other marketing strategies and brands. Cons: Can take longer to produce and grow.

These are just a few of the many platforms and with new social media apps appearing all the time, trying to find the right one can be overwhelming.
