Teen Magnets: How to Attract the Younger Audience

How do you attract the teen audience?

How to market to teens and millennial marketing is an area that many business owners and marketing professionals are asking questions about. The answer starts with going deeper, catch their eye, and keep their attention.

These are the areas addressed in this blog and I will address more strategies in this series of blogs.

Hello, I'm Lydia and this summer I'll be interning for MitziJaneMedia: ) I hope that this will be a very helpful resource for you, enjoy!

To start off, let's talk about the basics of marketing to teenagers online.

Go Deeper

Today's teens have a passion for voicing their opinion and letting their viewpoints be known. Plug yourself into their world and interests. To establish trust and comfort, brands must acknowledge and seek to connect with them as a person. Teens should know that your main objective isn't just to sell your products, but also to discover more about their audience. This is beneficial because the more you appeal to them authentically, the more open-minded and vulnerable they will be to you.

Catch their eye

Being a teenager myself, I have learned that a lot of the things I understand and that catch my attention are always well thought out, and brought down to a level at which the audience can understand what is being said.

For example, when I go to church on Sunday to listen to a sermon, my take away from the message is always centered around an example the pastor uses from a personal experience. For instance, using simple illustrations to help the audience have a better understanding of the point he is trying to get across. Another method could also be showing a relation between what you're trying to say, with something that interests them.

And Lastly, the small things matter! Bright colors are always a good tenet of distraction and attraction. But most importantly, be creative with what you are advertising.

Keep their attention

Being a teenager involves having a short attention span. This is if not the most, so important! When your target audience are teens, make sure you aren't going on pointless rants or rabbit holes. Don't overload their minds with obvious or meaningless facts. Boredom is the worst, so stick straight to the point and don't stray from that. Keep them on their toes, and genuinely interested in what you have to offer.

In closing these 3 skills are very crucial when it comes to reaching teens from a marketing perspective. This is the first part in a series, the next blog I will be posting will focus mostly on subtle, but effective ways to communicate with teens, resulting in them actually noticing and taking in what you have to say.
